It has always been the policy of Spadeoak to follow the highest standards of health and safety management by ensuring that sufficient human and capital resources are made available to create a working environment in which our people can work safely without injury or incident. As such Spadeoak employ a full-time Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to assist and support managers who in turn ensure that the policies are carried out.
Spadeoak operates a dedicated in-house health, safety and environmental management system called ‘CHESS’ (Combined Health, Environmental & Safety Standards). This system is part of the Business Improvement System which is ISO9001:2008 accredited and defines how the company plans, delivers, monitors and reviews health, safety and environmental performance.
Spadeoak is committed to the objectives of the Major Contractors Group and to providing high standards of training. As part of this commitment, an annual training plan is developed with the CITB and all of our site staff hold a CSCS card. In addition, a number have also been trained in plant operations and hold a CPCS card.
Spadeoak carry out a wide remit of training both for in-house and external requirements. Internal training covers in-house and Aggregate Industies procedures such as the health and safety management system, safe working procedures and corporate standards. External training covers CSCS and CPCS plant operator assessments as well as subjects such as manual handling, driver awareness, first aid, streetworks, underground service detection and banksman. Also covered are courses organized by clients such as the BAA Behavioural Safety workshops.
