CASE STUDY – Construction 3G Sports Pitch
Spadeoak was instructed by Bennett Memorial Diocesan School to construct a 9,600m² synthetic grass rugby football pitch facility. The school looked to enhance their sporting facilities with the addition of a large sports pitch to incorporate a full size rugby and football pitch and two 9v9 football pitches.
Bennett Memorial Diocesan School was founded on 17th October 1951, the school opened, originally for girls, in January 1953, in 1992 the school admitted its first boys group and now educated over 1850 students from the ages of 11 to 18.
The school in Kent appointed Spadeoak to deliver their new 9,600m² synthetic grass rugby football pitch.
The project began by Spadeoak stripping back and levelling the area ready to construct the playing field.
Critical pitch drainage was installed and connected to large soakaway in a vicinity of the pitch.
Spadeoak installed a foundation layer of 300mm Type 1 aggregate beneath a Geotextile membrane, 40mm AC20 binder course and 25mm AC10 surface course. The pitches shockpad was installed at a 20mm depth with a rubber crumb system and LigaTurf Ultimate synthetic grass was installed.
Playing lines were installed for a full size Rugby pitch, football pitch and two 9v9 football pitches.
Spadeoak then erected a perimeter fence line with a 4.5m high twin-bar super-rebound system, and a 1.2m spectator rail.
Floodlighting was installed around the pitch comprising of 8 columns, 13mtrs in height with an average luminance of 240 lux.
To complete the project paths to the pitch and a spectator area was also constructed with an AC20mm binder and a AC6mm surface course.
