CASE STUDY – Magpas Air Ambulance HQ & Training Centre Surfacing

Spadeoak was proud to be appointed the contractor to surface the road construction at the Magpas Air Ambulance HQ and Training Centre.

The charity-funded centre required the construction of the roadway and ambulance bays at the new HQ in Huntingdon.

The training centre will offer pioneering training to doctors and paramedics wishing to specialise in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM), for which Magpas are renowned for in the medical world.

Surfacing specialists Spadeoak were the appointed contractor to surface the road construction at the new Magpas Air Ambulance HQ and Training Centre in Huntingdon where they operate a helicopter and rapid response vehicles.

Magpas Air Ambulance is not a state-funded service and relies on public donations. Spadeoak was delighted to support Magpas with a donation of their own to support the completion of this project.

Magpas Air Ambulance is a charity which brings essential lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies in the East of England and beyond. Magpas enhanced doctors and paramedics support the ambulance service by bringing additional skills and treatments to the scene of an incident.

The project required a 130mm treatment to a circa 1,000m² area of permeable asphalt surface course installing on top of a base course, the permeable asphalt surface course allows water to pass freely through to the underlying structure to support on-site drainage ad minimise the need for rain pipes and gully’s.

Spadeoak was able to offer a sustainable lower carbon solution for this project which resulted in the material saving of 1.5 tonnes of carbon, the equivalent of planting 60 trees.
The project was completed to schedule, snag free and handed back to a very happy client.
